What is an average email open rate?
As our grandmothers and their grandmothers like to say, 'How long is a piece of string!' There really isn't such a measure of an 'average' open rate, as open rates differ depending on the size of campaigns and on the type of company or organisation sending them. Needless to say that smaller companies with more personal relationships with customers are likely to achieve higher open rates... as are religious or political organisations where customers have already 'bought in' to an ethos. Emails for marketing purposes on average achieve around 20% open rates, emails sent from health or educational organisations are likely on average to achieve open rates of around 30%. So, achieving open rates between 20-40% is going to be in an average range. The most important thing is that you learn from your campaigns to date and increase your companies personal average open rate - that's progress!
